At All Saints’ Episcopal Day School, we are committed to helping students grow into compassionate, curious, and capable individuals. Our mission aligns beautifully with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, creating a holistic learning environment where students are encouraged to develop:
- A commitment to personal excellence
- The discipline and integrity to succeed in school and life
- A responsibility for our planet and a gratitude for its beauty
- A sense of spirituality expressed through action and service
- A sincere love of learning
But what sets All Saints’ apart? How does our mission connect with the IB’s goal of cultivating “inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world”?
The IB framework provides a global perspective and inquiry-driven approach to learning. It empowers students to ask meaningful questions, think critically, and take action. Similarly, All Saints’ mission focuses on fostering character, community, and spiritual growth, anchoring students in values that guide their journey as lifelong learners and compassionate citizens. Together, these two missions form a powerful synergy that inspires students to excel academically while growing into thoughtful and principled individuals.
A Unique Spiritual Foundation
At All Saints’, one of the most visible expressions of our mission is our spirituality curriculum, which nurtures character and empathy through intentional reflection and community activities. Each year, students explore seven themes—interdependence, gratitude, wonder, empathy, resilience, stewardship, and change—through classroom discussions, inquiry-based projects, and weekly assemblies.
For example, our recent focus on gratitude brought the entire school community together in a meaningful way. Seventh Graders took the lead, reading The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and guiding discussions about its themes with younger students. They rewrote the story to reflect ideas from these conversations and collaborated with Third Graders to illustrate their new version. This project culminated in a stunning collage apple tree, now proudly displayed in our Café Commons—a symbol of the beauty that emerges when we learn and grow together.
More importantly, this project fostered essential skills like communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and self-reflection. It also demonstrated how our spirituality program supports the IB Learner Profile Traits of caring, being a communicator, risk-taking, and thinking.
A Community That Supports the Whole Child
Parents considering All Saints’ often tell us they are looking for a school that nurtures more than academics. They want their children to develop values, curiosity, and a sense of purpose. At All Saints’, our mission doesn’t just complement the IB framework—it enriches it, providing a foundation for both academic excellence and personal growth.
Our students are not only learning what to think but also how to think and act with integrity, empathy, and resilience. This combination prepares them to thrive in a complex world, equipped with the skills and values to make a difference. We invite you to experience this unique approach to education for yourself.
