All Saints Episcopal Day School, an International Baccalaureate independent school in Hoboken, New Jersey, is seeking a leader for our upper division (the upper elementary and middle school grades).

We seek candidates who are interested in the division head’s role specifically but also those who might have more experience as a dean of students, secondary school admissions counselor, or counselor and therefore be interested in talking about a hybrid leadership role that combines part of the division head’s roles with those other areas.

The division head at All Saints works in close partnership with our lower division head (for PreK 3 through grade 3) to lead and shape the entirety of our program. [See the list of key responsibilities and roles at the end of this posting.] They work with a team of colleagues in hybrid faculty/administrative roles who lead our programs for student life, IB pedagogy (for Primary Years and Middle Years), secondary school admissions counseling, literacy and enrichment support, athletics, tech integration, and counseling. 

This is a time of growth, change, and renewed ambition at All Saints. For the 2025-26 school year, we will welcome new people into key roles with secondary school admissions, student life, counseling, as well as overall program leadership. Guiding this new chapter is an experienced head of school who is relatively new to All Saints, our long-serving lower division head, and a corps of committed faculty, many of whom have taught here for over 10 years.

The faculty, as a group, are both poised to embrace new ideas and leadership and also capable of maintaining among themselves consistency with well-established, high standards for their teaching and the student experience here. All Saints has built a culture of learning and growing that intentionally promotes not just academic achievement that qualifies students for admission to selective secondary schools but also social-emotional growth and responsibility. It is a values-driven culture and a place where colleagues enjoy both collaboration and thoughtful professional development.

Because we are a small school for roughly 150-175 students, this division head’s role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for their first division head role or even someone with a lot of administrative experience who is looking to return to a role that has more direct contact with students, teachers, and parents than they have found in a larger school setting.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 5-7 years experience as a teacher; ideally in an independent school setting
• Experience leading projects and/or coordinating groups of faculty
• Experience supervising and providing evaluative feedback
• Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills
• A penchant for organizing, planning, and coordinating
• A deep commitment to project-based and field-based learning, to substantial milestone exhibitions, and to promoting interdisciplinary work across the faculty
• A clear commitment to intentionally and positively shaping the social-affective growth of children
• Familiarity with Responsive Classroom, a school-wide Social Emotional Learning approach (or similar program or curriculum)
• Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate–PYP, MYP, or DP–and a willingness to undertake training in this pedagogy
• Bachelor’s degree and an advanced degree in education or administration is preferred

The typical salary for a 12-month, program-centered leadership position currently ranges from $90,000 to $140,000; a candidate’s actual salary will be determined by experience and credentials. This position comes with full benefits, including health insurance coverage for the employee at no cost and 100% tuition remission for the teacher’s child(-ren) if admitted.

Key responsibilities and roles of the Upper Division Head:

• Oversee all aspects of the academic, social, and extra-curricular program and the school’s day-to-day functioning
• Manage, support, guide and evaluate faculty
• Be knowledgeable and able to articulate advances and trends in pedagogy and education.
• Be a visible presence in all areas of the school.
• Evaluate and, with faculty leaders, improve the academic programs, including for horizontal and vertical curricular flow.
• Make recommendations to the head of school regarding the hiring and retention, and the assignment of faculty.
• Establish programs for the in-service training of all teachers and recommend professional development opportunities for faculty
• Oversee and support the dean for student life, the counselor, the athletic coordinator, and the literacy and enrichment support faculty
• Maintain complete academic records on all students; orchestrate regular parent-teacher conferences; maintain regular communications from faculty to parents about the week’s activities; and assure that faculty produce quality narrative written reports two times each year.
• Assist in the admission process, speaking with families who are visiting and performing assessments of student applicants.
• With the lower division head, maintain a comprehensive calendar of school events and keep the entire school community informed of various school programs and activities.
• Oversee the coordination of the co-curricular and extra-curricular activity programs, including the planning of a weekly ethics/spirituality program and seasonal performing arts events.
