Being Yourself is Not Abuse

Grade 7 and 8 students participated in the Queer Youth Walkout on March 11 to protest anti-queer actions and legislation. The Student Alliance, an organization composed of LGBTQ+ students and their allies, organized the event in order to show their support for all LGBTQ+ youth, but particularly for the youth in Florida and Texas. In protest of the recent “Don’t Say Gay” bill in Florida and the designation of gender-affirming healthcare in Texas as child abuse, students carried Pride flags and signs with messages like “The Gay Will Stay” and “Being Yourself is NOT Abuse.” Students received positive community support as they walked from the Little League Field to City Hall and back to our 707 campus. This walkout showed the students’ commitment to the Epsicopal identity of All Saints, through which we commit, “to love our neighbors as ourselves, strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.”
