All Saints Episcopal Day School has a spelling sensation in its midst, and her name is Tessa Brehm. The third-grader is set to make her mark on Saturday, February 3rd, as she represents her school at the prestigious Hudson County Spelling Bee. This event is not just a local competition; it’s a gateway for young spellers to showcase their linguistic prowess on the national stage at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland.

The Hudson County Spelling Bee is no small feat, attracting as many as 72 of the region’s most exceptional young spellers from Grades 3 to 8. Each participant has triumphed in their respective school bees, earning the right to compete at the county level. The stakes are high, with the winner earning the coveted opportunity to represent Hudson County in the national arena. The bee is sponsored by the Hudson County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs/Tourism Development which closely aligns with the standards of the Scripps National Spelling Bee so that its young participants will be familiar with the format.

The Hudson County Bee is known for its high level of competitiveness. Last year’s winner advanced to the Scripps National Spelling Bee semifinals! Tessa is stepping onto a stage where the best of Hudson County will converge to showcase their linguistic skills.

All Saints Episcopal Day School, as an International Baccalaureate school, takes pride in fostering an environment that encourages students to embrace challenges and push the boundaries of their comfort zones. Tessa’s participation at the Hudson County Spelling Bee is a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who not only excel academically but also embody the values and attributes of the IB Learner Profile.

As Tessa steps onto the stage at Secaucus High Tech High School, she not only represents All Saints but also stands as a living example of what it means to be a risk-taker. Tessa’s journey serves as a reminder that success is not solely about winning; it is about the journey, the growth, and the experiences gained along the way. The community rallies behind her, acknowledging the courage and determination required to face the uncertainty of competition. Win or lose, she has already achieved something remarkable by earning the opportunity to represent her school at the Hudson County Spelling Bee. The lessons learned and memories created during this event will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on Tessa, shaping her into a more confident and resilient individual. Good luck to Tessa and all the spellers on Saturday. They are celebrating the power of words and the pursuit of academic excellence!
