Tom Trigg appointed Head of All Saints
Letter to the Community
October 16, 2024
Dear Members of the All Saints Community,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to announce that former Interim Head of School Tom Trigg has accepted our invitation to return as the permanent Head of All Saints Episcopal Day School. His term will start next month, with a return to campus full-time on November 15.
During a recent Board of Trustees discussion and vote, Tom received unanimous support for this important role.
It is clear to all who spend time with Tom that he has a great love and high ambitions for All Saints. He is eager to not only sustain and nourish the unique culture that helps us “raise good kids,” as he is known to say, but also to help the School evolve and to place a stake in the ground for what we want — and need — to be in the coming years.
During his interim tenure in the 2022-2023 academic year, Tom was seen as the kind of Head who knew everyone’s name, was accessible, ever-present, authentic, and inspiring. Students, parents, and faculty enjoyed his attention, and their response to his leadership resuscitated the special esprit de corps familiar to longtime All Saints families and faculty. In that year, the School saw a dramatic rebound in enrollment, with a dozen mid-year enrollments, a 130% increase in applications, and a 10% increase in re-enrollment among current families. The School also enjoyed exceptional fundraising to support faculty compensation and extra-curricular initiatives.
In addition to serving as the Interim Head here during 2022-2023, Tom has been Head of School at Cape Cod Academy, Carolina Day School, and the Waldorf School of Lexington. In a career spanning 34 years, Tom has served as a Director of Communications, Director of Admission and Financial Aid, Academic Dean, Upper School Head, and Associate President at four other independent schools. His teaching experience is similarly broad, spanning English, writing, philosophy, religion, and environmental philosophy. Tom’s credentials include a B.A. in English from the University of Kansas, as well as advanced degrees from Harvard (Administration) and Yale (Philosophy & Religion).
This decision regarding our next Head of School is the result of months of work. Beginning this past summer, the Search Committee reviewed the vetted dossiers of several accomplished candidates for an Interim Head of School. In addition, since the Board Officers were already engaged in discussions with Tom about the School’s plans for the coming years, the Officers asked the Search Committee to consider recruiting him to fill the role of the School’s next permanent Head.
The selection of the Head of School is one of the greatest responsibilities of the Board of Trustees. We are delighted with the outcome of the search process, and we look forward to welcoming Tom back to the All Saints Episcopal Day School community.
On behalf of the Board, I want to express my deep appreciation to my fellow members of the Search Committee: Lucy Feyrer, Jim Morgan and Ericka Peterson, who devoted countless hours and great care to the search process to ensure its successful outcome, and to Cassy Sommer, my immediate predecessor as Board Chair.
With the prospect of Tom’s strong leadership as the next Head of School and the continuing dedication of our faculty and staff, the Board of Trustees looks forward to embarking on the next bright chapter of All Saints Episcopal Day School.
Sincerely,
Divya Menon
